Tea party challenger Don Huffines narrowly beat longtime Republican Texas Sen. John Carona, with all precincts reporting early Wednesday. The down-to-the-wire victory effectively ended Carona’s 24-year Texas Legislative career and blocked the incumbent’s hopes for a seventh Texas Senate term. Carona still hadn’t conceded immediately after the results were released early Wednesday. Huffines’ slim 1.2-percentage point victory leaves Carona plenty of room to ask for a recount. “I don’t know if we have anything to say tonight,” Carona campaign manager Mari Woodlief said early Wednesday. Huffines, though, celebrated. “We think the election results are solid,” Huffines campaign manager Matt Langston said as Huffines made an overnight victory speech to a room full of happy supporters.The $6.3-million heated race was seen as a bellwether GOP contest.  Read more:
