A backyard shed has landed a Round Rock family in front of a district judge. The Patton family said they had the go-ahead from their home owner’s association to build a shed outside their home, but the HOA disagreed and has since filed a lawsuit against the couple.
 
 A family’s fight with their homeowners association is now in front of a Williamson County Judge. The Patton family in Round Rock was hoping to build a storage shed in their backyard, but it hasn’t been easy.”I would have never thought I would have this much trouble to do anything in my own home,” Michelle Patton said.Patton’s husband, Brian, said all specifications to construct the backyard building were in line with the Laurel Ridge homeowners association’s by laws. Homeowners have reason to celebrate this New Year with new laws regulating Homeowners Associations. Some homeowners and their advocates feel the new laws are good progress, but far from perfect.
 
After 11 years, Jim Rash said he’s tired of his Homeowners Association.

 On top of his dues, Rash was recently presented with a foundation assessment of $17,000 from his homeowners association (HOA). He will split that assessment with seven other townhome owners, but he said it isn’t fair. Read more:

The latest wave of legislation targeting homeowners associations takes effect Sunday, though it remains to be seen whether the new rules rein in the power of some groups.

A homeowner’s fight against his HOA goes another round in court. This time both sides are claiming victory.

Hidden Forrest homeowner Kent Hern beat his HOA and it’s attorney in 2010 when they tried to take his house for past dues even though he tried to later pay up. Read more:

Chickens stir up legal trouble between Round Rock homeowners association and residents

An argument about raising chickens in a Round Rock neighborhood has led to not one but two lawsuits. First, Andrea and Martin Feher, residents of Round Rock Ranch, filed suit in September against PS Property Management Co., saying it violated their privacy by taking pictures of them, their five children and their chickens in their backyard as it investigated reports of the rule-breaking fowl. The Round Rock Ranch Phase One Homeowners Association, which employs PS Property Management, then sued the Fehers this month, saying the family was refusing to get rid of their chickens even though they had been told it was a violation of the bylaws to keep them. It is not illegal to have chickens in Round Rock, but homeowners associations within the city may forbid them. The lawyer representing the homeowners association and property management company, Jeffrey Janota, said Thursday that he would not comment on pending litigation. Read more:
